TERMS OF THE COMPETITION



ELIGIBILITY

This championship is open to teams consisting of two male amateur golfers who meet the following requirements:

  • Age: Be 18 or younger as of July 27, 2026.

  • USGA Handicap Index: In order to be eligible for this years championship you must have an active USGA Handicap Index at or below the following:

    • Boys 18U: 15.0 max

    • Boys 14U: 22.0 max

    • Girls 18U: 22.0 max

 

  • Note: Any 14U that has a H.I. of 5.0 or less has the option to play in the 18U division. To do so email jcorcoran@nysga.org by entry the entry deadline (Wednesday, July 22, 2026).  

 

FIELD SIZE & WAITLIST

  • Field Size: 60 players (Boys 18U: 30, Boys 14U: 15, Girls 18U: 15). If any field does not reach capacity, open spots will be filled using players from another division's waitlist.
  • Determining Field & Waitlist Procedure: Registration for this Championship is NOT on a first come, first served basis. The field is selected "low-to-high", based on the player's combined Handicap Index as of the entry close date. A player's entry will be added to the Championship's pending registration field. When entries close on July 22nd, all players in each division will be ordered by their current Handicap Index by low-to-high. The player's in each division with the lowest Handicap Index, based on division size (above), will then be approved. Approved player's will immediately receive an email confirmation confirming their spot in the Championship.
  • Waitlisted Players: Any player that that does not earn a spot in the field will be placed on a waitlist ordered by their Handicap Index and notified of their status and order by email.

 

ENTRIES, DEADLINE, AND WITHDRAWALS

  • Entries: An entry must be submitted online prior to the deadline. Late entries will not be accepted, regardless of reason.

  • Entry Fee: FREE... courtesy of donations from Greg Natale and other Syracuse area golfers.

  • Deadline: Entries must be received prior to the deadline (12PM EST on Wednesday, July 22, 2026). Late entries will not be accepted, regardless of reason.

  • Withdrawals: If a player needs to withdraw, please contact jcorcoran@nysga.org as soon as possible. 

 

FORMAT, DIVISIONS & TEES

The format the Boys' and Girls' 18U divisions is 54-holes at stroke play, played in 18-hole rounds over three days with a cut after 36-holes to approximately half the field. The format of the Boys 14U division is 36-holes played over the first two days . Players compete in the following divisions.

  • Boys' 18U (ages 15-18

  • Boys' 14U (ages 14 & under

  • Girls' 18U (ages 18 & under)

CUT

The fields of the Boys' 18U divisions will be cut to roughly half the field size after Round 2. There is no cut in the Girls' 18U or Boys' 14U divisions.
 

RANKINGS

The 2026 SDGA Junior Classic is ranked by World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR)Junior Golf Scoreboard & Team New York.

 

                                                           

 

 

EXEMPTIONS
The winner & runner up (plus ties) of the Boys & Girls 18U division will be exempt into the 2027 NYS Boys & Girls 18U Junior Amateur Championship.

                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                 

RULES

All play will be governed by the USGA Rules of Golf. Players will be provided a "Notice to Players" rules sheet containing local rules and conditions. The SDGA will provide access to a certified USGA Rules Official to provide rulings and answer questions.  

 

SCHEDULE OF EVENTS

  • Monday, July 27 // Round 1 // Tee Times starting at 7:30am
  • Tuesday, July 28 // Round 2 // Tee Times starting at 7:30am
  • Wednesday, July 29 // Round 3 // Tee Times starting at 7:30am

 

TEE TIME REQUESTS
The SDGA will make every effort to accommodate tee time requests for the qualifying round. Requests must be submitted no later than 12PM on Wednesday, July 22nd (click here). Pairing requests will not be accepted.

 

CADDIES

The use of caddies is permitted, but they must be under 21-years-old and may not be related to the player.

 

FOOD & BEVERAGE

There are no meals included, players may purchase food and beverages using cash/credit at Bellevue's halfway house.

 

GOLF CARTS & PUSH CARTS

The use of a golf cart is not permitted. Push carts are approved.

 

RANGE

Access to the range is provided compliments of Bellevue.

 

TEE GIFTS
A tee gift will be given to every players in each division.

 

AWARDS

Trophies will be awarded to the winners. Pro shop credit ($2,000) will be awarded out to the top finishers in each division.
